Christian Themes In Music - War Pigs by Black Sabbath

HUB INTRO

As my Christian-themed hubs are becoming a matter of habit now, I will only state here that I was raised on Rock music.  I believe there is some good to be found in some of it, some wonderful poetry and hearfelt introspective creativity that can help us all better find and serve the Lord.  I hope to present to the readers, a different look at songs and music they might never have considered before.

Speech at 5:18 mark of video hits the mark

1 - Plot Destruction

"Generals gathered in their masses, just like witches as black masses."

I think few lines in rock music announce the true intent and bold arrival of a song as surely as these lines do. Getting straight to the point, generals are compared to witches, their purpose for meeting to plot ways to kill and destroy human life.

"Evil minds that plot destruction, sorcerers of death's construction."

In the same spirit, the book of the Psalms announces its true intent and bold arrival with the lines "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, not sitteth in the seat of the scornful."

Psalms 35:20 'For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.'

In a vain and frightful attempt to be prosperous beyond belief, America has tried to open new markets in places people don't want their markets. This attitude is nothing new. It started with colonialism, and evolved into imperialism, and has morphed into globalism. It's the same philosophy presented in a new age of technology. It is the diabolical "squatter's rights."

America sends workers, teachers, evangelist and anyone else who is willing to go, into a hostile area under the guise of bringing civilization to uncivilized tribal peoples. At first the savages welcome them with naive and open arms, their faith seeing so reason to fear their presence. What they don't understand is the wave of profiteers just waiting to flood in behind them. At the first sign of trouble, at the first moment the workers, teachers, evangelists or others are threatened or endangered, the power of the American military will ride in demanding these people be allowed to live safely - even though they weren't invited and have no special privileges or rights.

Why do you think so many Americans fear immigration reforms? They understand the power of squatter's rights better than anyone - having squatted on North America long ago. They aren't about to have the people of Central and South America come up and do what pioneers did to the Native Americans. They aren't about to let them get comfortable here and start demanding protection and rights.

As soon as an American is threatened or challenged in a Middle Eastern country, or Asian country, the government and military jump to their defense because despite all the war and upheaval in those places, Americans should just be able to tramp along anywhere they darn well please without being harassed. What a superior and high-minded thought we have of ourselves.

The Gulf War and proceeding Afghan War are the result of evil minds plotting destruction. They saw land and resources and squatted on it. And when those who owned it resisted and lashed out, America justified blowing up their infrastructure, dismantling their government and erecting a puppet government.

Watch and Really Listen

2 - Those Leaders Are Poison

"In the fields the bodies burning, as the war machine keeps turning, Death and hatred to mankind, poisoning their brainwashed minds - Oh Lord, yeah."

Fear poisons the human mind and makes it incapable of love. As 1John 4:18 tells us, "fear hath torment." Listen to the words former President George Bush used to promote an endless global war on terrorism. He used fear. As the presidents of old used the fear and terror of savage untamed Indians raiding squatters in the west to impress their agenda, Bush did the same. These are his very words.

". . .begins with al Qaida, but does not end there. It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped, and defeated. (Congress applauds)

Realize what happened when he made that speech. This is the old west all over again except now America will not be content conquering North America and destroying all the tribes on this continent it can reach. No, now it will not stop until it has done to the world what it did to the tribes of North America. To the people of the old west, the Indians were terrorist, godless heathens who didn't know how to raise their children, had no idea what civilization was like, and needed to change or be eliminated. Same agenda just new technology.

And I love this line from Mr. Bush. "Why do they hate us? . . . Their leaders are self-appointed. They hate our freedoms. . . They want to overthrow existing governments in many Muslim countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan."

In saying this, he is making it clear that America supports the governments in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan even though he just denounced the other Middle Eastern governments that have self-appointed leaders.

Egypt's Anwar El-Sadat assumed his office from the departed Nassar. Hosny Mubarak was Vice-President under Sadat and took office after he was assassinated. Mubarak did not run a democracy and there were many human rights issues under his watch - but he was an ally of the U.S. government and not to be clumped in with those other nations who had self-appointed leaders. (Where's Mubarak now and what are politicans in America saying about him now?)

How about Saudi Arabia? Saudi Arabia's government is what is known as an Islamic Absolute Monarchy. But their different than the other tribes of the Middle East - their our friends, much like mercenary Indians joined up with the U.S. military to hunt down the rogue Indian tribes that resisted American imperialism.

Jordan is a constitutional monarchy derived from the Hashemite blood line, a lineage that goes back to the prophet Muhammad.

As long as they play nice with us, they are our friends, our allies - the good guys with self-appointed leaders who hate freedom.

"Politicians hide themselves away, They only started the war, Why should they go to fight? They leave that role to the poor."

3 - Checkmate

The U.S cannot evade the shadow of its evil political deeds. We cannot forget that the American military trained Osama bin Laden to do what he did, and do what he does. It was fine when he was doing it to the Russians and other enemies of America. And then he is a terrorist when he does the same thing against those who trained him. Talk about hypocrisy.

"Time will tell on their power minds, making war just for fun.  Treating people just like pawns in chess.  Wait til their judgement day comes!  Yeah!"

There is a great judgement to come for those who use people as pawns not only for combative wars but economic wars.  They use the media to split sides, polarize issues, and ignite the friction for explosive stories.  The union-busting battle being played out in Madison, Wisconsin is no different than the war being waged in the Middle East.  It's all about making money.  It's all about protecting the interests of those only interested in making money.  Whereever the resources are, they will attack and conquer, be it gold, lead and silver on Indian grounds, oil under Arab sands, or pensions and benefits in a treaty with public workers.

4 - Sins Of The Pigs

"Now in darkness world stops turning, Ashes where the bodies burning, No more war pigs have the power, Hand of God has struck the hour."

Revelation 13:4 'And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast . . .'

Many politicians in America and their hawk-like supporters want to convince you that the rest of the world is the threat, that the great beast and the dragon that wants to conquer the world is out there - over there - everywhere but here. And yet, it is America, by the mouth of George Bush that announced to the whole world that this war "will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated."

And who is the terrorist in this equation?

"Either you are with us or your with the terrorists . . . freedom depends on us . . . we will rally the world to our cause . . . we will not fail . . . I will not forget the wound to our country . . ." - George Bush

Do you realize that South Africans at one time considered Nelson Mandela to be a terrorists?

Life is very much about perspective and when you allow the media and the politicians to decide where you can stand and see the world, then you aren't really free. When they say, "Either you are with us or your with the terrorists," what they are saying is, "Stand over here or be eliminated. We have already decided what is best and who is good and who is bad. Obey us, rally behind us, or you will fail."

Revelation 13:3-5 'And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast . . . Who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him? And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God to blaspheme His name. . .'

"Day of judgement, God is calling, On their knees the war pigs crawling, Begging mercy for their sins, Satan laughing spreads his wings. Oh Lord Yeah!"

In the book of Revelation, mystery Babylon is the greatest harlot ever. A harlot does anything and everything for money. I look about me today and see a nation wholly concerned with wealth and budgets, and only remotely concerned with the well-being and health of her people. To get rich is the American dream and to be Christ-like is nothing more than words and justification for acting proud. It is blasphemy. Satan is truly laughing at how naive these civilized Americans of the earth are.

Revelation 18:15 'The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing.'

All the dainty and goodly things their souls lusted after will be taken from them, and all the trading and marketing that made them rich and wealthy will be wiped out in a great plague of famine, fire and death.

It amazes me that a band like Black Sabbath displayed such wisdom when the worldly leaders still display so little. Perhaps the pigs should listen to this Black Sabbath song and learn but I doubt if they will. You know what the Bible says about them.

2 Peter 2:22 'But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.'

Amen

though i may not see eye to eye with you in every way i very much appreciate your looking more deeply into the value of things found outside of christianity. If we are told that God has written eternity into the hearts of men, we would be wise to look for it in all the ways people express their hearts

Great insight here. I really don't feel a great deal of Sabbath even should be listened to at all, lol, let alone by christians but some of their stuff has strong christian overtones to it.

That's a great old video down at the bottom! War Pigs is the tune of the age. I'd imagine that there's more to come. Gog and Magog, I want to see prophecy on massive scales in my time.

SheZoe, like I said in the hub, we shouldn't let anyone tell us how to see things in life, we all have our own perspectives. If we all see eye to eye, in a sense, then we are all standing in the same spot, looking the same way, and missing all the beautiful and wonderful angles making this world unique. Glad you were able to take something positive from this. Peace

lorddraven2000, I agree. I'm not and never was a Sabbath fan, but the boys in the band were human. They were just as capable as any of us at seeing truth and reality and expressing it. Thanks for the comment. Peace

WTS, you really can't wait for the proverbial shite to hit the fan, can you? Sadly, I'm afraid its not too far off. There is a lot of angst in the world, and unlike previous generations, technology has made it possible for a rogue person to do as much damage as a small militia used to do. There shall be wars and rumors of wars, and a third of this and that being consumed and destroyed - and still it will not be the end. We have a ways to go and some horror to experience. We'll need a lot of faith to get through it. Peace

You are correct. I know After Forever has some christian undertones to it but the ending is a bit harsh.

I would agree kashmir, although I am curious as to the direction of the band as far as the future goes.

AM,

Bro. you have been telling it like it is in your last few hubs. There should be a wake up call given, or rather, a trumpet sounded, and I thank God for you being the trumpeter. Believe it or not, but I once received some life changing information from a drunk. God will used whatever vessel He chooses.

God Bless

lorddraven and kashmir56, thanks for giving this hub some traction. I wasn't sure if using a Black Sabbath song was going put people off or not. Truth is, you can find the devil in the greed of any corporation or business, as well as in any music or musicians lyrics. I think the beauty is finding the glory of Christ in any and all those places and announcing it. And actually, I am more a Dio fan, so the Mob Rules type stuff was actually more my speed. But the king (sorry, but he had the best rock voice ever) is dead. Peace

godpreacher! Been missing your hubs and comments. Always a welcomed sight. And I thank you for the encouragement. I suppose even John the Baptist had those days out in the wilderness when it was good to hear a friendly voice of encouragement. And I agree completely with your testimony. In fact, my wife and I have one very similar which you have inspired me to write a hub on - so keep an eye for it. Suffice it to say, we were down to nearly nothing at one time and a young woman with even less try to get a couple bucks, anything from us. She was even willing to give us the coat off her back. We turned her away at the time, too caught up in our own problems. Not ten minutes went by, and we both felt bad enough to go looking for her. We never found her. We have both regretted that decision to this day. It haunts us and reminds us that we are always blessed enough to give because our Father will take care of us. We have to have faith this is true. And when we have that kind of faith, we are never broke, and never so lowly to not help. Her momentarily presence in our life was indeed life changing. Peace

Allen, I had those particular tunes and I played them often and loud. I had returned from Japan with a super system, top disc spinner, equalizer, Bose series 1 speakers that are still in use. I can't tell you the turn table and other stuff, but all top of the line. I got jammed as the 3rd floor barracks Sgt, and was supposed to keep order in the deck. I was a poor choice to that end because I drank and smoked more than any other out of 180 men. I had the bay hooch where I could go in and close the door and lock it.

So I was well liked do to my two sh!ts attitude. Every body knew there was 1 day a week, barracks inspection, I expected a full pass or the offenders were going to have a great ride, after that all was fair. Sorta sounds like a church, 1 day a week be good, fill the plate with change and you were good to go.I stopped listening to Sabbath, both on Sundays in a church and on my sound machines, in the opposite order but nonetheless done. I'm with Shaw up there "I want to see prophecy on massive scales in my time."

I just want the next time it is a Righteous calling that begins and ends the question of any and all disagreement of the truth in the hallowed name of Yahweh that shuffles in eternal peace wiping the worst from all and my mind. Peace 50

So your a Phil Collins fan. His stuff is kind of mind-numbing, but maybe that's not a bad thing after years and years of listening to suped-up stereo rock.

When I first went into my Christian walk with a heart to please, I rid myself and my family of everything "Churchanity" deems non-Christian. We got rid of movies, music, basically most of the entertainment in our lives. As time went on and we started developing our own philosophy of life based on Scripture and Home Assembly, we decided that even the things "Churchanity" call good, can be evil (Howabout those pedophile priests?) To make a long story a little shorter, we started allowing some of the things of our past back in our life, but now with a filter - the word. We didn't let it all back in, but we didn't reject everything either. I think it is very easy to get into a "this-is-holy-and-this-is-not" due to peer pressure and denominational teachings. I believe in the end, its all about us and what our spirit says is good and allowable and what our spirit says is bad and should be disallowed. Peace

I can't claim to be a Phil Collins fan, I just liked that piece. As far as fans, the people are mostly dead, old age, plane crashes, drugs and a hard life. Gerry Garcia, no pun intended. I listen to music. no TV, very little computer outside hubs written with styles that appeal and then don't deliver, then you ask the writer "Point?" and they god-bless me, a send me on my way, I then think "thanks for nothing" as it passes by again. I'm tired and ready for Christ ti light the candle and let us remain faithful and if they want to mark me, I'll let them take the short end of my life, refusing the mark. I do believe it is in the air I just don't know the night or eve before the trumpeters declare it's time.

God Bless you and yours with love and peace, 50

Wow... how ironic. I was actually at the California Jam concert. I may have even bumped into you somewhere in that "other life", when I was up in Wisconsin working with that whole D&D crowd in Lake Geneva back in the "early days"(LOL). I was raised on the same music and always used to reflect a similar philosophy when listening to the more "radical" messages of certain bands, of what to watch out for, and what NOT to do, or become involved with. Your well written reflections on this, is a needed warning as well. When I look back at the occult dabblings of Ozzy Osborne and Jimmy Page and see what their lives have brought them (or not), or the obscure lyrics of bands like "Pink Floyd" and (the rock group) "Genesis" (original band-when Phil Collins was still just a drummer) and the messages they were trying to even relate.

I am so glad I "grew up" and found the Lord and now have a huge testimony about that whole era in the decline of our society, to share with our youth today about "what NOT to do" with their own lives.

It is interesting to reflect back and "see" the potential doors that are being opened and indirect trappings that are laid by occult influences, as... what we may perceive as innocent (no matter our best intentions) are actually not. It takes a lot of Christ-based strength and fortitude with heavy-duty "Spiritual Armor", to even properly approach these topics and influences, without the lingering effects hanging on in our lives as a result of the "spirits" and "invisible influences" that they are associated with.

I likewise praise the Lord that you found the light of God as well and have a testimony to share with people today. You've brought up some interesting points that, many of us need to also be more concerned with cleaning up our own backyards first, before we try to preach a righteous philosophy to others without a truly Christ-based life to serve as an example instead.

Stay with the Lord always and be blessed... Rev.Ted

Sometimes people also forget that ALL THINGS serve God's purpose (Psalm 119:91) whether good or bad, and that His WORD never goes out without purpose (Isaiah 55:11) or returns without accomplishing God's intentions.

Dusty, I concur on that "Point?" thing. I get comments by people sometimes (not all - most of them are great), that just say something odious without elaborating. In other words, they simply have an opinion and nothing to support it. Don't get too tired my friend. The world still needs you and the Lord still has a purpose for keeping you around. If nothing else, be at ease knowing I anxiously await your comments, hubs and emails, all an important part of my life. Peace

Rev.Ted, I was wondering if someone who was actually there would see this. Yeah, we could have met back then in passing. I was in that D&D scene at one time and Lake Geneva has been its hub. (What a beauitful city it is - love the boat cruise) I still listen to Zeppelin and Floyd, but the way I hear it and receive it is different. I have trouble believing anything in itself can be evil. If all things work together for good for those that love the Lord and are called according to His purposes, then even a message meant to promote hate can be used to identify the reasons why we should love. It can be hard telling people that something is simply "bad" for them. But like you say, if you can use your experience and knowledge of what they are into to see the truth of Christ, it can be much more persuasive than just condemning everything outright. Thanks for such an enlightening comment. Peace
